The Tennessee Space Grant Consortium (TSGC) at UT supports training and research for students in areas relevant to aeronautics and space exploration. Numerous engineering competitions are held each year and the TSGC seeks to support student participation in these programs. Through this program, students gain experience writing proposals, designing, building, and testing complex rockets and mechanical systems, and presenting their work at national competitions. These skills and experiences prepare students for future careers in STEM.
Funding will be made available for eligible and robust graduate and undergraduate-led projects in national engineering competitions. Support from the TSGC might include for example, purchasing supplies to build hardware for competitions. If your team is in need of supplies for an engineering competition or senior design project, please reach out to Assistant Director Dr. Robert Jacobsen by visiting our contact page.
UT student teams have qualified for and competed:
- Spaceport America Cup (2019, 2020, and 2021)
- NASA Moon to Mars Ice & Prospecting Challenge (2018, 2019, and 2020).
