UT students test high powered rocket

UTK students from multiple student organizations successfully tested an experimental hybrid rocket of their own design. These students hope to launch their high powered rocket and deliver a scientific payload during the 2019 Spaceport America Cup, early this summer. With this successful static test, students now have the go-ahead for flight testing of their competition rocket. During this most recent test the hybrid motor produced a maximum thrust of 400 pounds. They expect their competition rocket to break the sound barrier. Funds from the Tennessee Space Grant Consortium at UTK were used to build the vertical test stand shown in the video and image. The test stand facility will be used for further development of rocket propulsion by UT students looking to improve their rocketry skills.
